Abstract
This study was launched to measure the role of the agricultural sector in achieving
sustainable development in the Libyan state, where the research problem posed a
question that read: Does the agricultural sector have a significant role in achieving
sustainable development in the country The analysis led to a set of results, the most
prominent of which was that all the respondents were male, and this indicates that the
agricultural sector in the city of Sirte is completely male-dominated, which reflects
the prevailing social customs and traditions in the city, which prefer men to do
agricultural work. The results of the study also indicated that a large percentage of
farmers in Sirte are owners of agricultural real estate, where this percentage reached
66.67%, and private ownership provides farmers with a sense of stability and
motivation to invest in their land and develop it. While most of the opinions of the
study sample tended to believe that the agricultural sector plays an important role in
achieving sustainable development in the Libyan state.
