Renewable Energy as a Strategic Driver for Sustainable Development

Abstract

Abstract :\ Renewable energy has become a central pillar in the pursuit of sustainable development worldwide, as nations seek alternatives to fossil fuels to address climate change, energy insecurity, and economic volatility. For Libya, despite its significant oil and gas reserves, renewable energy represents a vital opportunity to diversify the economy, enhance energy access, and ensure long-term sustainability. This research analyzes the role of renewable energy as a strategic force for sustainable development in Libya, focusing on economic, environmental, and social dimensions. It draws on secondary data from international organizations and academic literature, supported by comparative insights from regional and global experiences. The findings indicate that renewable energy has the potential to support economic diversification, generate employment, and strengthen energy security. Environmentally, it can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainability, while socially, it enhances equity and resilience in energy access. The study concludes that renewable energy is not only an alternative energy source but also a strategic driver for Libya’s long-term sustainable growth.
